The LMI display is the operator's indication of load and boom angle, and a failure of this component stops lifting operations until it is resolved. This article explains what the IC2600 display provides, how failures present, and what to check when ordering a replacement.

What the LMI system provides

A load moment indicator system calculates the relationship between the load in the hook, the boom length and the radius, and presents that relationship to the operator. The IC2600 display presents this information and provides the warnings required for safe operation.

The display is not a standalone component. It operates as part of a system that includes sensors along the boom and luffing cylinder, and a processing unit. A failure in the display itself must therefore be distinguished from a fault in the sensors or the processing unit, because the symptom can appear identical.

Common failure presentations

The display stays blank with the machine powered. This presentation commonly indicates a power supply or connection fault at the display rather than failure of the display unit. Checking the connector and supply voltage first avoids replacing a component that is functioning correctly.

The display powers on but shows no data or intermittent data. Intermittent display with poor data quality points toward a wiring harness fault, a loose connector, or a sensor fault rather than the display. Harness damage is common where the loom flexes with boom movement.

Displayed load does not match actual load. This is a calibration issue rather than a display failure, and requires the sensor system to be checked against a known reference before the display is replaced.

Ordering a replacement

Confirm the unit by part number against the machine parts catalogue. Display units for the same machine family may differ in the sensor set they support, and a mismatch will present as persistent data faults after fitting.

Where the machine has been modified or the display has been replaced previously, the machine serial number is the most reliable basis for identification. A photograph of the old unit's label is often the fastest route to correct identification where the part number is not legible.
