Motor Grader Link – Hole Centres and Joint-Wear Guide
A motor grader link controls the relationship between two pivots. Correct geometry is essential: centre distance, bore diameters, width, offset and orientation determine travel and alignment.
How should the link be measured?
| Feature | Method |
|---|
| Position | Identify the connected mechanism and machine side with photos |
| Hole centres | Measure centre-to-centre using bore edges and verified diameters |
| Bores | Measure in multiple directions to detect ovality; note bushings |
| Body | Width, thickness, bend or offset, bosses and orientation |
| Lubrication | Grease holes, grooves and fitting positions |
What does uneven wear indicate?
One-sided bushing or pin wear can point to a bent link, misaligned brackets, incorrect shimming or side load. Inspect both connected pivots. Copying dimensions from a visibly bent component can produce an incorrect replacement decision.
Fitment after assembly
Confirm that the link moves through the specified range without binding and that retainers, spacers and grease paths are correct. Check adjacent hose and structure clearance at both travel limits.

FAQ
Is centre distance enough to match the link?
No. Bores, width, offset, orientation and lubrication details must also match.
Can a bent link be used as the measurement sample?
Use verified drawings or an undamaged reference for shape and offset.
Why inspect both pivots?
Wear or misalignment at either end can cause repeat failure.
Compatibility note: Confirm the exact mechanism and full geometry before ordering.
