Motor Grader Rim Bolt – Thread and Wheel-Fastening Guide
A rim bolt is a safety-critical wheel fastener. Correct selection requires the exact thread, grip length, seating form and specified strength. A bolt that enters the thread is not automatically suitable for wheel service.
Fastener details to confirm
| Feature | Check |
|---|
| Thread | Diameter, pitch, thread standard, handedness and engagement length |
| Head/seat | Head size, flat/tapered/spherical seat and washer arrangement |
| Body | Overall length, threaded length, shank and grip range |
| Specification | Verified grade or property class and approved coating |
Wheel-service checks
Inspect the rim, hub and mating nut or threaded hole for elongation, cracks, damaged seats and corrosion. Replace damaged mating hardware as specified. Use the machine manufacturer's tightening value and sequence; this page does not provide a universal torque because fastener size, finish and joint design vary.
Customer safety note
Do not substitute an unknown general-purpose bolt. After wheel service, follow the prescribed inspection or retorque procedure and stop operation if movement, looseness or seat damage is found.

FAQ
Can torque be chosen from bolt diameter alone?
No. Joint design, grade, thread, finish and manufacturer instructions affect the value.
Can a damaged wheel seat be fixed by a new bolt?
No. The wheel or hub damage must be evaluated.
Should mixed bolt grades be used?
Use only the specified fastener set and service procedure.
Compatibility note: Verify the complete wheel-fastener specification before ordering or installation.
